High School Hat Tournament

San Antonio Ultimate Community,

For those of you that don’t know Chris Foley already, he is an English teacher at San Antonio Christian (SAC) High School. Chris dedicates some of his spare time to coaching a youth Ultimate team comprised of students from SAC. He has also organized events for young kids from around the city to get together and play Ultimate.

Chris is currently working to host a multi-school Ultimate Hat Tournament at SAC on Saturday, April 25th and he has asked for our help. This is a great opportunity to help out a fellow Ultimate player, as well as grow the sport amongst the youth of our city. An event like this could lead to multiple San Antonio high schools developing Ultimate programs. It could also grow into a much larger tournament that brings youth teams from around the region to San Antonio.

For an event like this to be a success Chris is going to need help, so I’m reaching out to all of you.

Let’s start spreading the word about this event. If you’re a teacher, coach, or parent of a high school age athlete then you can really help with getting information about the event to your school’s population. The more kids that know about the tournament, the better! And if you don’t know any youth players but know a way to get the word out then please let us know your ideas.

Also, an event like this isn’t a success without a lot of hard work by people who are willing to volunteer their time to help grow the sport we all love to play. At a minimum, volunteers will be needed to help set up fields, pick up supplies, track scores, deliver water and clean up afterwards. Stuff we are all more than capable of doing.  And if you have a special skill or certification like first aid or sports medicine then your assistance would be greatly appreciated. If you can help, then please consider doing so!

And last but not least, resources are needed to run a good tournament. It would be nice to provide the participants with plenty of food and beverages for the day, shade tents to get a break from the sun, Kan Jam for fun between games, possibly a disc or shirt to take home for each participant, and some sort of prize or trophy for each member of the winning team. All of these things would contribute to a great experience for these kids and would help to grow the youth Ultimate community in San Antonio. If you know of a way to help with getting some of these resources for the tournament, please contact us as soon as possible!

So there it is…I’m asking each and every one of you to find a way to help out with this event. I’m sure we can all find some way to contribute. Remember, start spreading the word and figure out how you can help.

And if you have any questions or ideas, you can reply to this post, hit me up at the fields or contact me directly: 13christophernewman13@gmail.com

Thanks!

Newman
